Ideas

So, I talked to my dad and sister today about WHAT I AM DOING WITH MY LIFE! The possibilities come December that are actually affordable are this:

1. Move to Portland, find a job. Portland is super cheap and my dad would help me out in the beginning.

2. Move back to Yuba City until May, work my ass up and save money, pray that I get the Farm Sanctuary seasonal tour guide position from May-October, and if so, move to New York, work on the farm, and save up. Then, come October, I would move to Portland. Or go to New Zealand maybe?

Those seem to be the only realistic options right now. Actually, number 2 is sounding pretty good. And by pretty good, I mean pretty bad because I would be in Yuba City for 4 months. BUT I could save some money (if I can find a job in YC).

What do you think?

  1. #2 sounds like more of a variety/adventure option. If you want to start to settle for a while somewhere right away, then #1 might work better. Depends on what you really want! YC isn't awful, but yeah it is definitely not awesome at all. Liveable, but not desirable. I agree that you can save money though! That's what I'm doing for the moment, so I totally understand why you would do it. Good luck on the decision making process!

  2. On both this post and your first: OMG it is super scary to be coming out of college right now! I don't know what to do with my life either, but I have settled the where-to-live issue: I'm moving in with Jeff and our friend Alex, assuming they find an apartment, in DC. Which will be awesome. I think for your decision both those options have their pros and cons. Do you have something in mind for Portland, or are you just ready to live somewhere awesome and not Yuba City? (and that's totally a legit reason to go!) If the farm sanctuary thing is what you really, really want to do maybe you should try the second. OR MAYBE BOTH? Hey, I mean, if you can live in Portland cheaply enough, you could maybe work your ass off THERE (though of course the earning potential is not as great) and still try for the farm sanctuary thing. I dunno. Obviously I am just moving in where I want to be and hoping to find something good (and, well, there's always temping), so if I were you I'd go to Portland. Also to keep in mind: how easy/feasible is it to find a decent job in Yuba City? Because I'm assuming a minimum wage deal wouldn't make you enough...
