What the hell I'm doing

So, since people seem a little confused about my life plans, I thought I'd write it all out here, so I can just refer people who ask!

I am currently living in SLO, subletting my former roommate's old room for the first half of July while I work at a children's summer theatre camp here in SLO.  Every day, starting last Monday, I've been running a theatre camp for 7-12 year olds, who will be performing "Beauty and the Beast, Jr." next weekend.  It's a little chaotic -- I'm not used to working with such little kids, and I get frustrated by little kid problems, like hitting and girl fights.  Did you know that girl fights begin as soon as girls can talk?  It's pretty ridiculous and sad, actually.  There's not much of a female equivalent to bromance, it seems.  We are naturally pitted against each other, and I think our lives become trying to get past that and form really strong female friendships.  By my age, that seems to have worked out, but that's a lot of years of bitches being bitchy to each other!  Anyway, watching these kids fight and tattle and cry and start rumors has been very...anthropological.

I have to be out of my house by next Sunday, so I'm driving through the Bay to stay with said former roommate-turned-tragic-lover that night, then driving to Yuba City.  On Tuesday, I'll be driving to Ashland to stay with my friend Darek, and then up to Portland for a few days.  In Portland, I'll be checking out some prospective houses and meeting up with the artistic director of Northwest Children's Theater, where it sounds like I have job stuff waiting for me!

Then, back to Yuba City for most of that week, where Mary Kay's grandkids will be staying with them/us.  Lots of (hopefully) fun little little kid time for those few days!  They'd better let me read them bedtime stories, as that is my favorite part of being around little kids.

Then, back through Berkeley for a couple of days to see a Dirty Projectors/Wye Oak concert, then back to SLO, where I will be couch-surfing for a couple of weeks.  Then, I'll have a two-week theatre summer camp, where I will be directing "Willy Wonka, Jr." at the same children's theatre.  They will perform on August 10th and 11th, and then back to Yuba City!  Then, I will be in Yuba for way too long, and moving to Portland as soon as I can.  I'm estimating a September 1st move-in date, hopefully close in the city in SE or NE Portland.  I'm talking to a guy now who has a room opening up in September in SE, so hopefully that works out!  I'm currently looking for jobs in Portland.  My teaching credential is in California, so I can't get a public school Oregon teaching job until I go through the motions to have an Oregon teaching credential, but I'm applying for drama jobs and education-related jobs in the meantime.

Things I'll be sad to leave in SLO: the sunshine, Sally Loo's, my 13-year-old piano/music prodigy (who just started writing music and decided she wants to be famous), the beach, the Scattinis, Kiyoko, Andrea, Tyler, feeling safe keeping the doors unlocked, knowing where I'm going all the time, The Cliffs.

Things I'm excited for in Portland: New people, new jobs, cute hipster boys, vegans, getting comfy on a bike, the library, Powell's City of Books, Voodoo Doughnut, more vegan food than I could ever want, pretty bridges, museums, cheap rent, endless places to explore, cheap yoga, yards and basements, dog-friendly stuff, vintage shopping, food carts, reconnecting with old friends, and pleasant surprises around every corner.
